Flexible Hours Work!
Gaulter Russell has always supported flexible working arrangements. You may think that this is just for the working mums and dads in the business, but it works for me too and here's why:
I have spent 16 years with Coastguard Search and Rescue (SAR) mostly on Auckland Harbour but have also travelled throughout New Zealand learning and practising the best SAR Techniques. I have spent time in Greymouth with their Police, Christchurch with the Fire Service and across New Zealand with the different Coastguard Units. Last week I spent three days in Queenstown with the Queenstown Airport Fire Service, who have just received their first Rescue Boat. Myself and my partner worked with the Airport Fire Service on the water to teach them the best SAR practices and also how to recover persons from the water (Yes, the lake was freezing!). We recently worked in Taupo with members of the public who had purchased a new boat and wanted to know how to handle it. On the first day they were stressed and nervous handling their own boat but by the end of the second day they were able to put the boat in the water and enjoy the day. The training clearly helped – as they made their way back in they helped another boat that was in trouble and towed them back to the boat ramp.
I find spending time on the water and passing on all my knowledge of SAR very rewarding, allowing me to indulge in a huge passion of mine. Having the opportunity to do this increases my sense of fulfilment, engagement, and enthusiasm in all areas of my life, and clearly my work life benefits from this too.
